Winter Counts: A Pictographic Narrative of the American West

Meet Dakota Goodhouse and learn about winter counts, the Plains Indian recordkeeping tradition that transcends written and oral history. Some winter counts document events going back hundreds of years, while others, like the ones Dakota will be bringing, are still being written today. Dakota, who is Yanktonai and Hunkpapa Lakota, is an expert on numerous aspects of Northern Plains Native American history and culture. Dakota will be at the Interpretive Center throughout most of the day, with a scheduled talk at 2:00 PM. Cost: $7.50
