“The annual meeting of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) in Bismarck-Mandan is the culmination of two years of planning between the Bismarck-Mandan CVB, North Dakota Tourism and AGLOW.  Our media, corporate and tourism members are all very excited to explore the rich cultural history contained within the borders of North Dakota.  While home base will be the Baymont Inn & Suites in Mandan, many excursions will strike out around Bismarck and the surrounding area.  We feel privileged to have the good folks of Bismarck-Mandan share all the area has to offer with us for the 62nd annual meeting of our great organization,” exclaimed Mark Smith, Executive Director of AGLOW.

“This is one of the cornerstone events of our organization.  It’s a dynamic, hands-on conference that brings national communicators together with North Dakota tourism and business professionals.  This truly creates a win-win scenario that helps our tourism partners and corporate members gain national exposure for their brands,” added Dan Stefanich, 2018 AGLOW President.

The prestigious Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writer’s 62nd annual conference will be held at the Baymont Inn and Suites September 10-13, 2018.  Approximately 200 AGLOW media, corporate and tourism professionals will come together for the four-day conference for craft improvement and networking while experiencing and promoting the outdoor recreational opportunities in North Dakota.

“The Bismarck-Mandan Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to welcome AGLOW to our community.  Attendees are in for a real treat and will have the opportunity to step back in time to 1875 at historic Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.  Visitors can tour the home of George and Libby Custer at the 7th Cavalry and On-A-Slant Indian Village, along with the museum and Visitor Center.  Dinner will be a unique experience at Bismarck-Mandan’s famous Pitchfork Steak Fondue.  Enjoy the fresh country air along with relaxing, natural surroundings and watch western chefs prepare fifteen steaks at a time, fondue-style on a pitchfork,” stated Sheri Grossman, the CEO of the Bismarck-Mandan Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“The group will spend time at The State Museum at the North Dakota Heritage Center, North Dakota’s largest museum. Boasting an outstanding collection of Plains Indian artifacts and interpretative exhibits that feature the state’s varied American Indian, military and agriculture history and prehistory.  The state-of-the art facility is a result of a $ 52 million expansion.  The ND Heritage Center has 39,000 feet of museum space-nearly double that of the original gallery size,” added Grossman.

Monday begins with a Keynote Tourism Session and membership meetings and rounds out with tours and a dinner reception at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, sponsored by the Bismarck-Mandan CVB.  Tuesday’s activities include a tour of Ducks Unlimited Great Plains Regional Headquarters, and a Shooting Day at Fried Family Marksmanship Complex.  Wednesday’s activities expand on the Learn-It/Do-It Sessions with “Photography for the Outdoor Journalist” and “Story Telling Strategies for the Photo Journalist” and in the evening the Golden Glow Awards Reception.  Thursday a keynote session will be presented by Ashley Hiebinsky, Curator of the Cody Firearms Museum.

Varieties of spouse tours include a tour of Cloverdale Foods, which began in 1915 when the Mandan Creamery began.  Wednesday a tour of the North Dakota Heritage Center & Museum will allow visitors to experience first hand the rich cultural history of the area.  A cruise on the Lewis & Clark Riverboat on the Missouri River will create unforgettable memories on Thursday.

Super breakout afternoon will take place on Thursday afternoon where corporate members will show off their latest outdoor products and Destination Outdoors will be highlighted by our tourism members.  That evening the AGLOW Auction will be held where members and invited guests will bid on great outdoor products, the proceeds will benefit scholarships high school and college students.
