Biking Trails

Biking Trails

Welcome!

We have been working on a new project to highlight the amazing bike trails in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Biking is the perfect way to exercise, experience our community and social distance at the same time! Both Bismarck and Mandan Parks and Recreation Districts have incredible trails that weave through the cities and flank both sides of the Missouri River. Please check back often as we will be updating this page with information to make planning your visit to Bismarck-Mandan easier than riding a bike!

The total trail systems in Bismarck-Mandan have now grown to a combined total of more than 100 miles of recreational and interpretive trails! They provide access to virtually all the recreational venues in Bismarck and Mandan. When you are on the trails, you can truly “get from here to there,” from Pebble Creek Golf Course on the east side of Bismarck to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park south of Mandan.

Trail Maps:

Below is an interactive map of the Missouri Valley Millennium Legacy Trail and Bismarck Riverfront Destinations, as well as the Bismarck Park and Trail Map. Additionally is the map and details of Mandan's Paved Recreational Trails.

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park's non-motorized trail system covers approximately 6.75 miles in a series of loops and several connecting segment trails that are open for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Harmon Lake
Highway 1806 & County Road 140, Mandan, ND 58554
701-667-3363

Harmon Lake is a 145-acre reservoir located on Otter Creek. The multiuse trail features 13.1 miles of terrain for biking, hiking or birding. The trail is designed as a sustainable single track, unpaved trail allowing walkers, hikers, birders or bikers reach several areas throughout the recreation area.

The reservoir measures 38 feet at its deepest point. Rock fishing piers and a boat ramp and dock provide access opportunities for those to enjoy the lake. Two sandy beaches are located along the shore of the lake. Harmon Lake is a no wake waterbody, meaning boats must travel at a slow idle speed. Personal watercrafts are not allowed on the lake. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and cutthroat trout fingerlings. Camping is available. There are 33 individual spots and two 5 camper group pads, all with electricity. Individual sites are available on a first come first served basis, unless you rent a shelter.

McDowell Dam Recreation Area
1951 93rd Street NE, Bismarck, ND 58501
701-223-7016

McDowell Dam Recreation Area is a 271-acre park located five miles east of Bismarck on Old Highway 10 and one mile north. There is a 2.9 mile paved recreational trail on the grounds and a wooded area for nature walks or runs. There is also a Nature Trail encircling the banks of McDowell Dam.

A public beach provides great access to the water, and you can fish off a dock. These items are available for rent: paddle boats, paddle boards, a row boat, canoes, kayaks and a tandem kayak. Picnic shelters are available (and can be reserved for special occasions), as well as horseshoe pits, a small concessions area, a playground and modern restrooms. There is a paved recreational trail on the grounds and a wooded area for nature walks or runs.
