Dakota Goodhouse, a U.S. history and Indigenous studies instructor at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, will present on winter counts, a time-honored tradition among many Plains tribes. Winter counts document a tribal community’s chronological history through sketched pictures of major events across time. A contemporary winter count created by Goodhouse is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota collections.
This event is part of the ND250 commemoration of the United States’ 250th birthday and the regional
Vinterfest, a month-long celebration of winter on the northern Plains featuring educational programs, outdoor recreation, and cultural traditions.
